New information on Georgia conflict points to Iran conflict

ROME -- An intelligence source with a NATO-aligned government has suggested to The Schadenfreude Post that the weblog's interpretation of the Georgian conflict with Russia is related to Iran's nuclear program but for difference reasons than those specified in previous posts.

During the height of the short shooting war, TSP suggested that the conflict might be a manifestation of a secret deal between the West and Russia to cede Georgia to Russia in return for a green light to allow Israel to bomb Iran's nuclear program sites. Our intelligence source in Europe says the two conflicts are related. The source suggested that Israel was gearing up to bomb Iran's facilities in the days preceding the Georgia conflict but Russia's occupation of Georgian air bases and logistical warehouses precluded the use of them to refuel Israeli fighter-bombers, thereby scuttling Israel's plan for now.

The Western intelligence source hinted that factions in NATO may have played a role in creating the crisis as a way of preventing Israel from carrying out the raids. The source said that many in the West fear having to face an additional war front in the Middle East due to an overextended American military. The source also indicated that Russia seemed to have intelligence about the impending Israeli attack and felt it needed to intervene, as it considers Iran an important piece of its plan to strengthen its geo-political position in the Near East.
